You can't Let Go if you don't Attach

"a major social issue of our time: the effects of maternal absence on our children"

-Erica Komisar, LCSW

Komisar describes how to achieve healthy attachment in a soothing narrative and describes, in scientific terms, a baby's brain development and it's reactions as it relates to attachment.  She debunks motherhood myths and spells out the daunting costs of being absent.  If I was about to have a baby... I would keep BEING THERE as a handy reference!  Which is why it has become part of my standard baby shower gift.

After I narrated BEING THERE, Tantor Audio sent me HEALING FROM HIDDEN ABUSE by Shannon Thomas in which she proposes the LACK OF ATTACHMENT as the possible root of narcissist, sociopath and psychopath behaviour.  Aha!  The two books link and suddenly I am engaged in a baby-raising curriculum!  I have something to say at the next baby shower.  I have cred.  And then... months later... Tantor Audio sends me FROM MOM TO ME AGAIN by Melissa T. Schultz, a guide for moms after the kids are launched into their own lives.  The empty nest.  Boy time flies.  The kids are gone already?  Just like Komisar, Schultz points out that, if there is SUCCESSFUL ATTACHMENT, kids have an easier time moving on with their lives.  Moms... not so much.

This Book Report is dedicated to the loving memory of my mother.  She was there for me.
