No Sugar coating on this Life Saver

There's a tightness in my chest and when I pick away at it, it starts to feel like a tangle of branches holding me down.  I am unable to see above it.  But I can see through it.  That's what it felt like for me in what I now understand was Hidden Abuse.  And I wasn't even the main target!

Chances are, if you go to Audible.com, search on Wendy Tremont King and sort by "best-selling", HEALING FROM HIDDEN ABUSE will be at the top.  â€‹This popular title came to me at a time when someone very dear to me was taking steps to get out of a narcissistic relationship.  I wasn't familiar with all the terms when I started prepping the book but Shannon Thomas describes them so well, with examples, that I could recall incidents of each aspect of the Hidden Abuse scenario.  The book is undeniably a significant resource.  But I think the popularity of the audiobook is a result of me narrating directly to someone dear, with all the care and urgency that Thomas intended for her readers.

Thomas focuses on HEALING strategies but she devotes the early chapters of the book to education.  It helped me to learn about the actions and effects of: • Gaslighting • Smear Campaign • Flying Monkeys • Narcissistic Offense • Intermittent Reinforcement • Idealize, Devalue, and Discard Phases.  I had a lot of 'aha' moments as I thought back over the years.  And it really helped me to let go.
